I just went to have a little look at what my lovely friend, artist and illustrator Melissa Launay has been up to and I discovered these beautiful images of some of her latest work on her blog (which is very inspiring and will make you want to give up your day job to stay at home and paint things… but unless you are as talented as Meli then I wouldn’t recommend this as a sound career move.). She’s gone all 3D on us with her new paintings, which feature hovering insects and blooms curling up from the canvas… all done with her trademark intricacy and joyful colour palette. Beautiful.
I thought I’d mark this lovely frosty morning with one of my favourite works by artist and illustrator, Melissa Launay. An Anglo-Spaniard living in London, her enchanting, otherworldly paintings never fail to inspire me, and her cheerful illustrations always put a smile on my face. Check out www.melissalaunay.com for more examples of her beautiful work… or her blog for a behind the scenes look at all her projects. She’s currently working with Camila Batmanghelidjh and charity Kids Company, covering the walls of their centres with her colourful murals, and has just finished illustrating the magical children’s book, My Mama Earth (out in April). She’s also participating in the upcoming Lost Worlds exhibition at The Framers Gallery (17th-25th February 2012)… definitely worth a visit!
