Situated above the recently opened Tillings Cafe in Gomshall, Surrey, the Bourneside Gallery is a real gem. Having heard great things about the cafe, I went over there this afternoon to see what all the fuss was about. And, whilst the place is nice and I did enjoy my wonderful orange and fig cake, the upstairs gallery – run by Judy and Pete Hill – really stole the show. With a carefully curated selection of mid-century furniture, art, ceramics and glassware, as well as an impressive collection of contemporary works by notable local artists, the gallery makes such a refreshing change from the hundreds of fusty antique shops dotted around the Surrey Hills. Its proprietors really know their stuff, sourcing unusual pieces with stories to tell, and exhibiting some really exciting original prints. What’s even better is that everything is very reasonably priced, so it’s highly unlikely you’ll be leaving empty-handed. Exhibitions change on a regular basis – I can’t wait to see what they’ve got in there next time I pop in!
