I’ve started to realise that the ever-increasing pace of life sometimes makes it hard to enjoy the small stuff, to think creatively, or to open your eyes and notice something wonderful. So, I began this blog to catalogue all the things that bring me a little bit of joy. When I first started writing it I was working for the brilliant ELLE Decoration magazine, now I’m a freelance writer and I’m training to be a yoga teacher… but the despite the change of scene, the motivation stays the same. In this fast-moving, mass-produced, cut-throat world, it’s nice to fill your life with things that evoke emotion, offer freedom, have meaning, or bring comfort… whether that’s getting out in the fresh air, curling up with a great book, eating a home-cooked meal with friends (and buckets of wine, obviously), or discovering a cosy cafe, a new artist or a beautiful handcrafted find.  As Mahatma Gandhi once said ‘There is more to life than increasing its speed’, and I hope that in slowing down and sharing these things with you, I might bring you a little joy as well.

Thank you very much for reading, Tessa x

  1. Amazing blog! I’ve been having similar thoughts on life recently – there’s so much to enjoy around us, on every step, and yet we often don’t notice much of it, because of all the rush… My new year’s resolution is to “stop and stare” a lot more often and enjoy the simple things – beautiful views, good food, meeting people in the streets etc.. one of my recent discoveries is a little cafe on my way to work, where every other day I can see the same guy enjoying his ‘full English’ and a morning paper at a tiny table outside; a little dog is always with him and the man shares his sausages with the dog while reading the paper.. it’s their little daily routine – those two definitely know how to cherish the moment! I just love watching them – they always put me in a good mood!

I am also in the process of setting up my own business, which hopefully will help me change my life even more and do what I love even more often. Anyway, just wanted to say I love your blog and the idea behind it, all the best!

    • Thanks so much for your kind comments Freddie, it’s lovely to hear encouraging words! I like the sound of your new year’s resolution, that’s exactly what I’ve been trying to tell myself recently too. I would love to see this guy and his dog, they sound like such a sweet pair; I wish I had a small dog to share my breakfast with. :)

Wishing you all the best with your new business, I just checked out your website – you have some beautiful pieces on there!

  2. Love the blog idea… have been feeling much the same way of late and it’s nice to know I’m not alone. I think it’s good to recognise that we can’t just rush about on full speed all the time and that perhaps our bodies – and obvs our minds! – need a bit of slow down time. I also read that creative thought is a separate type of thought process from regular old logical thought and that it takes a while to arrive at it, yet most people never allow themselves to do that.

Anyway, random ramblings over, what i meant to say was… hello, nice blog!

  3. Tessa, I love your philosophy – nothing beats slow, intentional living paired with simple pleasures. Beautiful photography and heartfelt words, can’t wait to read more. All the best, Terri
