OK, so I realise that I might be a little behind on this, but I’ve just found out about the very cool new South London design studio, Hendzel + Hunt. Based in Peckham, their small but multi-skilled team of young designers includes engineers, pattern-makers, sculptors, product designers and illustrators. They specialise in bespoke wooden handcrafted furniture, and have turned their hands to everything from complex cabinetry – like the Advent Calendar Cabinet shown above, commissioned by Selfridges & Co for their 2011 Christmas display – to whole interiors, such as the Bunker Bar in the Old Vic Tunnels. I love their sustainably sourced Made in Peckham range, and their quirky Pica Pica Watch Cabinet. Some designs are a little more out there than others… The Great Victorian Porky Pie is one such piece, featuring a slightly terrifying but amazingly crafted wooden pig’s head as it’s centerpiece, but it’s clearly this kind of light-hearted and experimental thinking that makes their work feel so fresh and unique.
The Advent Calendar Cabinet is constructed from reclaimed timbers. It features 24 doors with lots of surprises, traditional wooden locks, catches, latches, twists and turns.

The MADE IN PECKHAM range is being retailed by The Shop at Blue Bird, 350 Kings Road, SW3. The Blue Bird showcased a 12ft long banquet table, designed by Hendzel + Hunt specifically for the space.

The Troy Town table and benches are built entirely using discarded roof trusses with stained pieces of reclaimed pallet wood inlayed into the table and bench tops.

The Kirkwood chairs are made from both reclaimed hardwood and Victorian floorboards.
The Pica Pica Watch Cabinet was designed for the master dressing room of a London penthouse.

The Great Victorian Porky Pie is a specially commissioned piece for “The Auction Room Exhibition” for London Design Festival 2011.
Bunker Bar is a collaborative project with interiors collective Junk&Gems and the Old Vic Theatre.

How fab’ is this?
